Driving Instructions:
See the map Exit the base through the POL Gate and set your odometer's trip counter to zero. Now just follow your nose for about 20 km along Rt 10. You will enter Towada City and come to a fork at a traffic light. There will be a blue sign overhead that shows Rt 10 continuing along the right fork and Towadashi on the left. Take the left fork. After a few hundred yards you will see K's Denki and Homac on the right and you will come to a traffic light at the intersection with Route 4. Turn left onto Rt 4. Cross a bridge over the canal and proceed to the third traffic light. This will be the intersection with Route 102. There will be a sign showing Towadako and Oirase. Turn right onto 102 and drive for just about 24km. At that point you will come upon a traffic light (usually flashing amber) with a gas station on the right. Turn left here and proceed across the bridge. This is still Rt 102. Follow this road through the Oirase Gorge until you reach the lake. This is a narrow, winding road that follows the path of the Oirase River. At the lake you can turn right to continue on Route 102 or left onto Route 103. 103 will take you to the majority of the facilities around on the lake. It is the way to Yasumiya village where the fireworks displays and the Winter Festival take place. 102 runs along the north shore and has very few amenities after you pass the ferry dock. Also, be aware that 102 is closed at the higher elevations during winter because of extremely heavy snowfall. |
